This scenic park in the middle of downtown Chicago is a welcome retreat for many local families and tourists who just happen upon the gem. It is located in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Chicago's Michigan Avenue shopping district, also known to many as The Magnificent Mile.

And while this area of the city can sometimes be noisy, crowded and expensive, amazingly Seneca Playlot Park manages to maintain a tranquil atmosphere of natural beauty.

What Your Preschooler Will Enjoy About Seneca Playlot Park

The park has a lovely grassy area surrounded by park benches, that opens up to two playgrounds: one designed for children under 5 and another for ages 5 and up. Both are somewhat shaded and on most days, don't get overly crowded. The smaller playground is ideally suited to very young preschoolers and toddlers who might not have balance and agility for higher equipment. There is train and truck shaped climbing equipment that preschoolers love to pretend with. A fairly large sandbox (big enough for several children to play at once) is located on this side of the park as well.

What Parents Will Enjoy About Seneca Playlot Park

Although parking is difficult to come by and area garage rates can be costly, Seneca Playlot Park is accessible by public transit via the Red Line train. Also, the park is a great place to let preschoolers blow off some steam if you plan to attempt a little Michigan Avenue shopping. It's a great place to meet fellow mom or dad friends, as there are numerous shops and eateries nearby. Or you and your preschooler can stop in for a visit at the Museum of Contemporary Art, which is located just steps away.

There are no bathroom facilities at this park, as there is no fieldhouse. However, Water Tower Mall is located across from the park and this indoor mall has restroom facilities. The mall also boasts a gourmet cafeteria-style food court that offers a wide range of choices your preschooler may enjoy.
