Peterson Park
Peterson Park is located within the city's northwest side North Park Village Campus, which includes a senior residential facility, the North Park Nature Center, a children's gymnastics center and a recycling center. This large park is set off from the surrounding main streets and has two playgrounds, wooded areas, and is easily accessible to public transit.
Unique features of Peterson Park
The park's main appeal is its secluded location. This keeps traffic noise and crowding to a minimum. Although it is a popular park, it seldom feels crowded and accommodates kids of many different age ranges.
The playground nearest the parking lot features a pirate ship to climb on and under. Standard playground equipment makes up the remainder of the playground and a large sandbox, big enough for several children to play in at once is also located close by. Picnic tables and the park's fieldhouse are located in this section of the park, as well.
At the other end of Peterson Park, past one of the large soccer fields, you'll find another playground of the same size with more standard equipment and a large sandbox as well. Large shade trees keep the park feeling cool and comfortable even in summer and a small grove of trees surrounding the playgrounds gives preschoolers a tiny patch of woods to hike and explore, with parents' supervision, of course.
