Homer's Restaurant

Homer's Restaurant in Wilmette is one of those simple old-fashioned restaurants that appeal just right to preschoolers. It is popular with many families in this North Shore Chicago suburb. The menu lists kids' favorites such as grilled cheese and hot dogs, but Homer's biggest draw is their homemade ice cream.
Kids meal choices include peanut butter and jelly and macaroni and cheese. But, preschoolers may also choose from regular menu items like chicken strips, sandwiches and fries. Ice cream creations include cones, sundaes, shakes and banana splits. Homer's sells hand-packed or machine-packed pints and quarts of their famous ice cream in their most popular flavors.
Some of these flavors include: Oreo cookie, pistachio, toasted coconut, banana, coffee, strawberry, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, peppermint stick, mint chip, butter pecan and more. Flavors tend toward the tried and true classic, rather than experimental, which should go over well with most preschoolers' taste buds. The homemade frozen yogurt, described as 98% fat free, is exceptionally rich tasting.
Dining At Homer's with Preschoolers
Orders are taken at one of two lines: one line for ice cream and one for other food. Service is fast and the food is surprisingly very tasty and fresh, though they're known best for their ice cream. The dining area is clean and tables are somewhat small. However, since the food isn't too complicated, there isn't a space issue at Homer's as table turnover is quick. Booster and high chairs are available for children.
Several coin-operated toy vending machines can be found to the right of the ice cream counter and old-fashioned candy sticks and licorice ropes are sold at this counter as well. Outside, red benches line the entrance to the restaurant. This is where many patrons stop to eat their cones in the warm months. Two outdoor tables are located to the side of the restaurant near the parking lot.
